On November 12th, 2024, Dr. Sorawit Narupiti from Chulalongkorn University visited UTokyo for a preparation meeting regarding the 3DTraffic SATREPS project. Some of the Japan team attended the meeting, including Prof. Fukuda from the University of Tokyo and Mr. Matsunuma from Oriental Consultants Global.
In this meeting, we discussed the plan to create a data platform for the project. Various types of data are expected to be utilized for our research. Therefore, we believe there is a significant need to have a platform for collecting, compiling, and synthesizing data from various sources and making meaningful information out of it. We also briefly reviewed preceding similar projects in Bangkok and how our study could improve the previous work. With his extensive experience in Bangkok transportation planning projects, Dr. Sorawit shared with us noteworthy know-how about the usual transportation practices in Bangkok, prospective collaboration with local institutions, challenges, and opportunities that are essential to be considered, for the success of our project.
It was a fruitful discussion with Dr. Sorawit and all of the attendees of the meeting, and we are thankful for Dr. Sorawit’s time in Tokyo.
* 3DTraffic is the abbreviation of our project title, Project for Data Driven Dynamic Transport Management in Emerging Metropolis for Climate Change Mitigation, which will take Bangkok as the study case.
